Eight people burned trying boiling water challenge

Perhaps parents should update their sage advice to today’s verbiage: just because you saw an Instagram video of someone throwing boiling water into the air, doesn’t mean you have to too. Especially, to borrow another expression: what goes up, must come down.

Eight people were sent to the burn center at Chicago’s Loyola University Medical Center after injuring themselves while performing the boiling water challenge during the recent Polar Vortex.

The challenge, which involves tossing boiling water into the frigid air to watch it freeze instantly, didn’t always work in some cases.

And it wasn’t just the participants who were hurt. Those on the sidelines watching the stunt were also victims, according to the hospital’s spokesperson. Which other viral stunts do you realize are pretty dangerous?
