California city cancels Christmas parade because no one signed up to be in it

Bah humbug, indeed. California City, California has canceled its annual Christmas parade due to a lack of entries from uninterested residents.

The Parks and Recreation Department made the last-minute announcement Tuesday on the city’s Facebook page, blaming the shortage of parade participants on possible “weather concerns.” The parade was supposed to be held this Saturday.

Hopefully, the residents’ “weather concerns” are limited to the parade. The city says it still plans on staging its yearly Holiday Village in Central Park, an outdoor festival set for Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Could the lack of interest have something to do with this year’s limited shopping time between Thanksgiving and Christmas? Are parades too old-fashioned for the new generation?
