Calvin Johnson bested Jerry Rice's single season receiving record playing with broken fingers
5:45PM Thursday
February 28, 2013

Lions WR Calvin Johnson is clearly the best receiver in the NFL, a fact that was cemented in stone when he broke Jerry Rice's record for most receiving yards in a single season by hauling in 1,964 yards last year, but that record seems all the more impressive when you find out that Megatron played the majority of the season with at least two, maybe even three, broken fingers.

Let that sink in for a second-Johnson came within 36 yards of a 2,000 yard receiving season and broke the single season receiving yardage record with a couple of busted digits.

Like most players in the NFL the mercurial receiver was dinged up a lot last season (knee, ankle, possible concussion) but managed to play through his injuries. The broken fingers story, if true, is amazing considering wide receivers' bread and butter is their hands. When asked about it at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis, Lions head coach Jim Schwartz was his usual cagey self, neither confirming nor denying the report.
