Guitarist Steve Morse has issued a statement regarding his departure from Deep Purple.
Morse — who has exited the band so he can care for his cancer-stricken wife, Janine – says he hopes to perform again when his wife is feeling better. “I’ll miss everybody in the band and crew, but being Janine’s helper and advocate has made a real difference at many key points,” Morse says. “As Janine adjusts to her limitations, she is able to do many things on her own, so we will try to play some shorter nearby concert tours with friends to, hopefully, get both of us out of the house.”
The news of Morse’s departure, announced by the band on Saturday, came four months after he took a temporary leave of absence – and 28 years after he joined Deep Purple.
