After teasing a reunion on social media last week, Bob Mould’s 1990s band Sugar released a new single on Wednesday (October 15), “House of Dead Memories,” their first new music in thirty years. The trio – which includes bassist David Barbe and drummer Malcolm Travis – also announced a pair of two-night stands in New York (May 2-3 at Webster Hall) and London (May 23-24 at Kentish Town Forum), marking the band’s first live shows together in three decades. Sugar were known for their influential blend of indie rock and power-pop that was featured on hits like “If I Can’t Change Your Mind,” and they enjoyed a brief but impactful run with two albums and one EP before disbanding in 1995. The reunion began with a positive rehearsal last year, fueled by interest from fans and their record label, BMG. “People’s reactions will probably guide a lot of the possibilities in front of us, whether it’s more songs or more shows,” the 64-year-old Mould says. “All three of us are all in for whatever feels right. I just want to see if people are still interested.” (Rolling Stone)
