Sherrone Moore, head coach of the Michigan Wolverines football team since January 2024, was abruptly fired “for cause” on December 10.
The University of Michigan announced that an internal investigation uncovered “credible evidence” Moore had engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a staff member—an action violating university policy and prompting zero tolerance from athletic director Warde Manuel.
During the same day, Moore was taken into custody by the Saline Police Department and transferred to the Pittsfield Township Police Department amid an assault investigation. He was later booked into Washtenaw County Jail, though authorities noted the incident did not appear random and gave no indication of any immediate threat.
Moore leaves behind an 18–8 record over his two seasons and a 9–3 finish in 2025, capped by a bid in the Citrus Bowl against Texas. Associate head coach Biff Poggi has been named interim head coach as Michigan prepares to search for a permanent successor.
