The Detroit Lions may still clinch a playoff spot—but it’s going to take a perfect finish and a little help from others. Here’s how:
1. Must Win Remaining Games
With two games left—@ Vikings (Week 17 on Christmas) and @ Bears (Week 18)—Detroit must finish 10–7, winning both matchups.
2. Packers Must Lose Both Remaining Games
Green Bay currently holds the final wildcard spot with a 9–5–1 record. If Detroit finishes 10–7, they’ll leap the Packers only if Green Bay loses both games (at Ravens and at Vikings) to end up 9–7–1
3. The 49ers and Bears Scenarios
Detroit has no path through the division—they’re out of the NFC North. However, if San Francisco loses all remaining games, Detroit might leap them on record—but this is a remote scenario. The Bears, already locked into their spot, don’t factor in anymore.
The Lions are still alive at 8-7. But they now need two wins, and two Packers losses, to get in.

Detroit’s odds of making the playoffs is under 10 percent. However, you’re saying there’s a chance…
