According to Pew Research, 87 percent of people in the United States are in favor of marijuana being legalized.
The same survey points to the dramatic change in American belief. Over 80 percent of people thought it should still be illegal 40 years ago.
Most Americans now also support easing penalties for people with marijuana convictions, and 61% support removing or expunging marijuana-related offenses from people’s criminal records.
Michigan is one of 24 states that have legalized recreational use of weed. The state legalized recreational marijuana for adults 21+ in 2018 (Proposal 1), becoming the first Midwestern state to do so.
