A major leadership change is coming to the University of Michigan.
The university announced Monday that Athletic Director Warde Manuel will step down at the end of 2026 after a decade leading the Wolverines’ athletic department. University President Domenico Grasso said a national search will begin to find Manuel’s successor.
Manuel, who has served as Michigan’s athletic director since 2016, oversaw one of the most successful eras in school history, including national championships in football, men’s basketball, and gymnastics.
His tenure at the university also came with a handful of scandals.
