The Michigan High School Athletic Association is now allowing high school athletes to earn money from their name, image, and likeness (NIL). The policy, approved by the MHSAA Representative Council, takes effect immediately and greatly expands what student‑athletes are allowed to do outside their school programs.
Under the new rules, athletes can now participate in personal branding activities such as social media endorsements, autograph signings, photo sessions, modeling, merchandise sales, and paid personal appearances.
