Pray for toilets across the country.
Health officials are investigating a growing outbreak of cyclosporiasis, a parasitic illness that can cause severe gastrointestinal symptoms, including what the CDC describes as “watery diarrhea with frequent, sometimes explosive, bowel movements.”
Michigan is one of the hardest-hit states, with more than 570 reported cases as of July 4.
Cyclosporiasis is typically contracted through food or water contaminated with the parasite Cyclospora cayetanensis. After doing a simple google search on how to prevent explosive diarrhea, it says to “wash hands frequently, cook foods thoroughly, and avoid high-risk items like raw produce or unpasteurized dairy. If you are traveling, drink only bottled or purified water.”
