When Billy Strings brought more than 28,000 fans to Ionia for his inaugural Freak Fair festival, most people had no idea it was also a fundraiser for the city that raised him. After the event, Strings revealed that once expenses are paid, all remaining profits will be donated back to Ionia.
The two-day festival drew massive crowds and featured performances from Greensky Bluegrass, Leftover Salmon, Sierra Hull, and more. While there’s no official word on whether Freak Fair will return next year, Strings says he’d love to make it happen again.
