Rapids could be coming back to the Grand River

A new plan is underway to restore the whitewater rapids to the Grand River, one year after a previous effort was rejected by regulators.

WOOD TV is reporting the city of Grand Rapids is moving forward with a plan to bring back the rapids by removing dams and adding rocks and boulders to create fast-moving sections of the river.

Advocates believe that restoring the rapids will boost tourism, recreation, and fishing opportunities. The city has received a state grant and approved contracts for the project, pending approval from regulatory agencies.
