Minor League To Replace Extra Innings With Home Run Derby

One of baseball’s minor leagues is experimenting with a new way to end games – replacing extra innings with a home run derby.

The eight-team Pioneer League has announced that tie games will be decided with a ‘sudden death home run duel’.

Each team will send up a hitter who gets five pitches – whoever hits the most home runs is the winner.  If the score is still tied, teams send up another hitter for the next round.

The Pioneer league is designated as an ‘MLB Partner League’ but is not affiliated with any MLB teams.

What do you think of this rule?  Could you see it happening in MLB?  What other baseball rule changes would you make?
